The pace bowler has taken 309 Test scalps in 71 five-day games with an stellar bowling average.
Australia's selection chief the selector has stated that captain Pat Cummins will play a "major part" in this winter's Ashes series.
Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might be unavailable due to a ongoing back issue that remained unresolved.
Initial reports from team management suggested no definitive call had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the five-Test series set to start on November 21 in Western Australia.
Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the prospects of being involved.
"We're aware that time is getting short and there are permutations involved, not just the back issue, but other factors as well," he commented.
"The outlook is good. We firmly believe that he'll participate in a major part. With luck it's the first Test. If not, then we'll pick it up."
Past Concerns
He was sidelined the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand recently after examinations confirmed a lower back issue.
He has a history of recurring issues, with setbacks in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 forcing him out of three Australian summers in four years.
Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his recovery plan to secure his spot for the contest.
The selector indicated that it was unclear if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his recovery but conceded it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the first Test.
Contingency Plans
If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.
The talented all-rounder was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their ODI contests against India as a precautionary measure because of discomfort in his torso.
The selector characterized it as a "small issue and stated that Green will play in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to resume bowling."
"Considerable effort has gone into developing the strategy for him to participate for the opening match as an all-rounder," the selector detailed.
"He was only going to play the first two ODIs anyway. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, if it causes any delay for another day, we opted to take a cautious route."
